Will Highway Guardian work on my car?

The advanced technology of this product works on any vehicle with fuel injection. (Typically any auto manufactured after 1990 has fuel injection.)

Who installs the Highway Guardian on my car?

Any novice mechanic can install the device. The kit includes complete installation instructions. Additionally, a link to an easy step-by-step YouTube video will be available soon.

Can I disable the device?

Once installed, the Highway Guardian is on and protecting your loved ones at all times. There are also tamper-proof components in the installation kit to deter disabling the device.

Is the speed adjustable?

No. Highway Guardian is preset at 73 MPH.

Will I receive a warranty with my Highway Guardian?

Yes. Once you receive your unit, register it online and your warranty will be activated.

Why did you choose to set the limit at 73 MPH, a speed faster than most limits in many states? Why not set the limit at 65 MPH?

We wanted to provide drivers with the ability to travel at a safe speed when needed. Additionally, a lot of states have 70 MPH limits, and we wanted to ensure drivers could at least maintain minimum speed limits.

Is there evidence to show that limiting speed to 73 MPH makes a significant difference in teen fatalities? Do you have statistics that show distribution of fatal crashes by speed?

All of our research indicates that the probability of high-speed collisions among young drivers, especially among 16- to 20-year-olds, increases with speed. The actual percentages are:

Most U.S. highways have a speed limit of 70 MPH. By setting the top speed at 73 MPH, we wanted to give young drivers the ability to pass another vehicle while keeping them from reaching higher speeds, which proved to be more dangerous when it comes to the percentage of high-speed accidents in this age group.

Are you aware that extended driving in injector cutout mode may destroy the catalytic converter? That is because you are, in effect, forcing a lean condition, pumping excess oxygen down the exhaust manifold. Also the ECU may attempt to compensate for the lean condition by commanding increased injector duty cycle, dumping extra fuel down the pipe when the injectors have power. How do you mitigate this risk?

The only way extended driving in injector cutout mode can occur is if the driver misuses the Highway Guardian unit, exceeds the speed limits, and reaches the limit mode repeatedly. Responsibility is always up to the driver.

Risk is mitigated by drivers driving at posted and safe speeds. We have had units on many vehicles for almost two years, reached the limiter hundreds of times during test periods, and have had no ill effects. If the driver never exceeds 73 MPH, they will never know Highway Guardian is installed in the vehicle.

Will tampering with the fuel injection system impact vehicle warranty?

The mere use of the Highway Guardian should not void any manufacturer’s warranty.

However, the use of the Highway Guardian may void a warranty if the manufacturer can show that the use of the HG was the cause of the problem. If it turns out that the aftermarket part was itself defective or wasn’t installed correctly and causes damage to another part covered under the warranty, the manufacturer or dealer has the right to deny coverage for that part and charge for any repairs.

Do I already need a GPS device in my vehicle to have Highway Guardian installed and working properly?

Highway Guardian is not a GPS device, but it has built-in GPS receiver to detect speed. It is the only device you will need. Highway Guardian does not provide geographic location services in the same fashion a traditional GPS does, like for example TomTom, Garmin, Magellan, etc.
